FAQs

Who holds my funds?

You do. Sackmesser is non-custodial: your private key stays on your machine and never reaches the API. The API only returns unsigned actions, and your local wallet decides whether to sign and send them.

Can my agent make the wallet do anything it wants?

No. The wallet only executes actions the Sackmesser API issued for a request the wallet authorized itself. Each action is bound to your wallet address and that request by a hash; the wallet recomputes it, checks the action has not expired or already run, and confirms with the API before signing. Actions that were edited, relayed from another service or meant for another wallet are refused.

Do I need to update anything when new protocols are added?

No. Integrations live in the API, so new providers, protocols and protocol versions arrive as new or updated endpoints. The wallet only signs and sends the actions it receives, and your agent discovers endpoints from the API, so neither needs an update.

How do I pay for API calls?

Paid endpoints charge per call over x402, with no API keys or subscription. Payments come from your x402 client, such as AgentCash, which has its own wallet. The Sackmesser wallet that signs your trades is separate, so the funds you trade with never pay for API calls.

Where is my wallet stored?

In your operating system's keychain: the macOS login keychain, Windows Credential Manager, or a Secret Service such as GNOME Keyring on Linux. That keeps the key out of files, backups and synced folders. On machines without a keychain, such as most servers and containers, it falls back to a file readable only by your user account, and the wallet warns you. Installing or starting the wallet never creates or replaces a key, and your key never passes through chat.

How are wallet import and funding kept private?

Setup opens a page served only on your own machine, not over the internet. Its link carries a random secret token that every request must present, and the page shuts down after 10 minutes. You import or create a key and get your deposit address there, never in chat.
